Clear Liquid Diet-Through Day 6
Important:
Both your recovery and long-term weight loss success rely in large part on what you eat and when. You will start with a clear liquid diet. When cleared by your surgeon, you will progress from clear liquids to full liquids. Again, once you are cleared to do so, you will progress to soft (puréed) foods, and then finally, a regular diet with solid food. This process will take a few months, depending on your recovery.
Clear liquids include fluids or foods that are clear liquids at room temperature. These foods are gentle on your gastrointestinal tract and allow your new pouch to heal. Patients are generally required to follow this diet for 5 to 7 days after surgery.
The goal is to provide your body with the fluids it needs for a healthy recovery and to prevent dehydration.
During your hospital stay, your nurse will provide clear liquids to you. Broth will be served at meal times. You should continue to follow this diet at home until your doctor advises you to advance.
Consume approximately 2 to 3 ounces of clear liquids at each meal. Eat 6 to 8 meals daily. It should take 15 to 30 minutes to finish a meal.
By using a baby spoon and taking up to 30 minutes per meal, patients can normally avoid vomiting and indigestion. It is very important to sip water between each and every meal.

100% Juice Blends
100% juice blends are a great way to increase your choices as you move to full liquids. Try Welch's Cherry Splash®, Fruit Punch®, or Wild Berry® juices. You can also try V8® or Ocean Spray light Style Cranberry Mango® juice.
Sugar-Free Gelatin
2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup cold fruit juice
1 1/2 cups fruit juice, heated to boiling
In a bowl, sprinkle gelatin over cold juice. Let stand 1 minute. Add hot juice and stir until gelatin is completely dissolved. Pour into a 9" x 13" baking pan. Chill until firm. Cut into 1-inch squares.
